June 13 Brass Band Festival

Join the UM Club of the Bluegrass on Saturday, June 13 to enjoy the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville.

We'll start with a potluck at 5:30 at the home of Ken and Lynn Copp, 422 Meadow Lane. The Copps will provide a main course and the club will provide beer, wine and sodas.

Please bring a side dish (salad, dessert, rolls) and a lawn chair.


We'll travel to the Main Stage at Centre College for the Saturday evening performances:

7:00 Dixie Power Trio
8:00 Chicago Brass
9:00 Canadian Brass
10:00-Jack Brass

Here are the directions to Copp’s home for Brass Band Festival


From Lexington via Highway 27 south to:

- Highway 34 (Lexington Road) into Danville past Christian church on right

- At first stoplight turn left onto Kentucky Street

- Go to end of Kentucky & bear left onto Meadow Lane

- We are on the right at 422 Meadow Lane - see Michigan banner!!

- Park & walk to the right of our garage back to our patio

From Lexington via Blue Grass Parkway :

- Exit at 127 South & follow bypass around Harrodsburg, then go 4+ miles watching for highway signs for 2168 & 127

-Immediately get in left lane to go into Danville: DON’T TURN ONTO 2168

(DON’T follow Bypass 127 South)

- Follow 127 (Maple street) into Danville to first stoplight (Lexington Street)

- Turn left onto Lexington & go to third stoplight (Kentucky Street)

- Turn right onto Kentucky Street

- Go to end of Kentucky & bear left onto Meadow Lane

- We are on the right at 422 Meadow Lane - see Michigan banner!!

- Park in front & come around back to the right to our patio


Parking for Festival (we can park where we have parked before):

- Go back the way you came on Kentucky avenue to stoplight

- Turn left onto Lexington & go to 4th Street (church on right) & turn left

- Follow 4th across Main to 2nd stoplight & turn right on Martin Luther King

- Follow King to the end (by the Copps' former condo) & park.

- Take chairs & walk around fence to Festival

BEREA COLLEGE SUMMER CARILLON CONCERT SERIES

 

Bluegrass Club Board member John Courter invites Wolverines and friends to Berea.

Performers from Portugal, Michigan and Kentucky will be featured in the 2008 Summer Carillon Concert Series at Berea College.   The Music Department will present a series of concerts on Draper Tower’s 56-bell carillon, the largest in the state of Kentucky.  Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the first or second Monday of each month, and will last about one hour.  Seating in the College Quadrangle will be provided, and a video monitor will allow persons at ground level to view the player in action. Admission is free for all events.

 
July 6:  The LVSITANVS Carillon Duo, Ana and Sara Elias from Portugal

August 3:  John Courter, Carillonneur of Berea College, Kentucky

September 7 (Labor Day):  Steven Ball, Carillonneur of the University of Michigan

 
Three recent compositions for carillon will be featured, including the first performance in Berea of John Courter’s “Soliloquy,” written for the 2008 Queen Fabiola Competition in Belgium, followed by “Sonatine” by Stefano Colletti, and “Hattem Groove” by Kenneth Theunissen.  The final set features film music from Final Fantasy X (“To Zanarkand”), Beauty and the Beast (“Be Our Guest”), and The Muppet Movie (“The Rainbow Connection”).

 
All are invited to attend this festive Summer Carillon Concert Series. Visitors may greet the evening’s artist at the entrance to the Draper Building five minutes after the concert.
